A three-alarm blaze damaged 10 to 15 RV trailers at Camping World Wood Village, Ore., on Thursday (Feb. 2). No injuries were reported.
Pamplin Media Group reported that smoke from the fire temporarily shut down lanes of westbound Interstate 84 starting around 3 p.m.
“The wind is pushing the fire, and it’s pushing it at 40 miles an hour,” Battalion Chief Jason McGowan said during an interview at the scene. “People look at the fire and not where they’re going.”
Eleven engines and three trucks from Gresham and Portland Fire departments responded to the flames, which are believed to have been sparked outside the building.
Several sections of Camping World’s exterior walls were charred. Burn marks were visible on both the south exterior, facing I-84, and on the building’s storefront, which faces Sandy Boulevard.
An adjacent green shed, used to detail and service RVs, appeared to be a total loss.
