A 300-unit indoor storage facility for motorhomes is planned for Marana, Ariz., a town located west of Tucson, according to The Arizona Daily Star newspaper of Tucson.

National Self Storage RV Central, subsidiary of Schomac Group, a Tucson area real estate developer, plans to build the facility on seven acres along I-10 at West Orange Grove Road.

“We are totally catering to the high-end Class A motorhome (owners), but we will rent or anyone,” said Robert Schoff, chairman of National Self Storage Central.

At the facility, motorhomes will be stored in masonry-covered buildings that will blend into the desert.

One of the primary markets for National Self Storage RV Central will be motorhome owners living in neighborhoods where they are not allowed to part their rigs near their homes. Other Tucson area RV owners worry about vandalism when they park their units near their homes, the Daily Star reports.

Rental rates at National Self Storage RV Central will begin at around $200 a month and range up to $400 a month for 40-foot units, Schoff told the Daily Star.

If the venture in Marana is successful, then similar National Self Storage RV Central facilities will be built in other communities in the Southwest, Schoff said.

Currently, most RV storage facilities in the Tucson area provide uncovered parking either on dirt or asphalt lots.

There is at least one other indoor RV storage facility in the Tucson area, Space Saver Storage, on the southeast side of Tucson, according to the newspaper. It is located on a former lumberyard property and can accommodate 30 to 40 motorhomes inside one of its buildings.

Space Saver Storage opened three months ago and offers a dump station, a wash rack and secured premises.
