In addition to 4,400 RVs and around 10,000 RV lifestyle enthusiasts, there will be about 500 vendor booths displaying RV-related items at the Great North American RV Rally (GNAR), which opens today (June 21) in Hutchinson, Kan., according to the Wichita Eagle.
The Affinity Group Inc.-sponsored event at the Kansas State Fairgrounds, will continue through Thursday (June 24).
Attendees, including walk-ins, will be able to attend about 30 seminars a day, with topics ranging from healthy cooking to using the Internet during travel, said Ron Epstein, director of media for the rally.
There will be tours of Kansas cities, including Wichita, which will take people through the Old Cowtown Museum and the Mid-America All-Indian Center, Epstein said.
Hutchinson’s central location, as well as the grandstand, made the fairgrounds a good choice for this year’s GNAR, he told the Eagle. The grandstand will be used for such acts as the Temptations Review Featuring Dennis Edwards.
Recent rainstorms in the Hutchinson area created a hassle for GNAR organizers, forcing them to ask some attendees to move on Sunday (June 20), the newspaper reported. The original plan was to allow 3,000 RVs on the fairgrounds, but Epstein said the grassy areas were too wet Sunday morning for the heavy vehicles.
As a result, many RVers set up camp at the Hutchinson Mall and at an airstrip near Yoder, Kan., the Eagle reported.
School buses are shuttling people from those locations to the fairgrounds.
Most of the RVs arrived over the weekend. They are expected to begin leaving at sunrise Friday (June 25) after spending about $1.5 million at businesses in Hutchinson, Epstein told the newspaper.
