Actuant Corp., manufacturer of Power Gear and Dewald slideout systems, will consolidate slideout production in Mishawaka, Ind., the company announced today (June 6).

Actuant, based in Milwaukee, currently makes Power Gear electric slideout systems in Beaver Dam, Wis.

However, Actuant acquired Mishawaka-based Dewald in March, so it decided to consolidate its slideout production in Mishawaka, which is close to a cluster of RV manufacturers in Elkhart County, Ind.

Dewald makes hydraulic systems primarily for towable RVs.

Actuant will take a $2 million charge against earnings to cover the cost of severance payments to the Wisconsin employees and other consolidation expenses. Actuant will take the charge against its earnings during its third fiscal quarter, which ended May 31.

“Results from the recently acquired Dewald business have exceeded our expectations and acquisition integration activities are progressing on schedule,” said Actuant President and CEO Robert Arzbaecher.

“We also are pleased to report that both Dewald and Power Gear have been awarded sizeable RV leveling and slideout business from a leading domestic RV manufacturer,” Arzbaecher said.

The domestic RV manufacturer was not identified in the Actuant statement.
