Park model manufacturer Adirondack White Pine Cabins Inc. has partnered with Titus Mountain Ski Center, Malone, N.Y., to develop building sites adjoining the ski slopes through a joint venture.
Titus Mountain will develop and market the sites, while Adirondack White Pine Cabins, Saranac Lake, N.Y., will provide custom-built cabins.
The first sites will be available for purchase this spring, with the first units being located along the side of the Long Way Home trail, which funnels down to the Titus Mountain Base Lodge.
“We plan to offer turnkey solutions for buyers, including installation of the cabins, utility connections, deck construction and snow removal services,” said Zack White, manager of Titus Mountain Ski Center. One acre, cabin-ready lots will sell for $19,500, while the cabins will range from $35,000 to $50,000.
White said the ski center has considered developing sites on the mountain for some time, but a decision was made to strike up a joint venture with Adirondack White Pine Cabins after Titus Mountain officials visited the company’s manufacturing facilities in Malone.
“These cabins are built to withstand the rigors of our winter climate and they have the look and feel of the Adirondacks,” White said, adding, “It was easy for me to visualize these attractive, handcrafted cabins along the trails of the ski center.
“Other ski areas, including Breckenridge, Colo., have added similar cabins to their resorts to enable skiers to obtain an affordable, yet elegant form of housing which is delivered directly to the sites as fully functioning units. We think the same concept can work here, using one of our Malone-based cabin manufacturers.”
William Plumb, who launched Adirondack White Pine Cabins last year, said the joint venture offers new economic development opportunities for the region.
“We already have some cabins in inventory and will begin construction on additional units soon,” Plumb said, adding that the company may expand its work force this year, assuming that demand for new cabins increases as anticipated.
Adirondack White Pine Cabins manufactures 400-square foot units, which come fully furnished with bathrooms and kitchens. Classified as recreational park trailers, the factory-built cabins sit on a chassis and can be wheeled on to their intended building sites and hooked up to permanent utility connections.
