Airstream Inc. has kicked off a $40 million construction project to expand its plant and consolidate assembly under one roof.

The Dayton Daily News reported that the manufacturer’s plant in Jackson Center makes iconic “silver bullet” travel trailers with a loyal fanbase around the country.

JobsOhio, the state’s private development arm, congratulated Airstream on the kickoff.

“Another chapter in Airstream’s story began today as the company broke ground on their plant expansion,” JobsOhio said Friday (Aug. 3) afternoon.

The new 750,000 square-foot facility should be complete in 2019. Airstream expected to boost its workforce to about 1,200 employees.

The Jackson Center campus — about 56 miles north of Dayton — has been Airstream’s sole manufacturing site since 1979.
