Airstream Inc. has partnered with conversion specialist Creative Mobile Interiors Inc. to produce a custom-designed 37-foot Class A diesel pusher motorhome.
“We build the chassis and the shell, then deliver it to Creative Mobile to produce the interior,” said Tim Champ, director of marketing for the Jackson Center, Ohio, manufacturer. “It’s a very similar process to a bus conversion.”
The prototype, or “line pilot,” for the A-37 debuted during the National RV Show in Louisville last December.
“The A-37 is the first unit in our brand new A-Series,” said Champ, noting the line will replace the diesel-powered Land Yacht in Airstream’s 2006 model year. “We also are going to offer a 39-foot model.”
Grove City, Ohio-based Creative Mobile opened a 4,000-square-foot facility April 1 to accommodate operations for Airstream’s A-Series. Owner Owen Connaughton said the company spent about six months designing floorplans for the custom motorhome.
“They want to offer something that no one else in the industry does,” he said.
One of Creation Mobile’s key design features was outfitting the coach with all-electric operations, which are backed by a large generator/inverter system that will monitor voltage and provide on-demand power.
Other interior features in the triple-slide 37-footer include: Corian countertops, tile flooring, an above-counter glass bowl sink, all-rounded cabinets, 30-inch LCD television and a residential stainless steel refrigerator.
“There are a lot of little touches,” Connaughton said, “like a pull-put pantry, wine rack, Kohler faucets and upscale seating.
“It also has a convection heating system that preheats the engine and also provides hot water and zone heating for the underfloor and upstairs area.”
