A few days after Fleetwood announced it lost $31 million during its most recent quarter, the leading RV producer had almost 5,000 of its motorhomes recalled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The NHTSA recall includes a total of 4,967 units. They are model year 1996-2000 Discovery units and model year 1999-2000 Bounder Diesel units.

NHTSA believes, on certain of those units, the power steering gear box hydraulic lines are routed too close to a sharp edge, which could cause a rupture and hydraulic fluid leak.

As a remedy, dealers are to inspect, replace or repair damaged hoses as necessary and relocate the affected hydraulic lines.
