Coming off a successful summer of high demand and better than average rentals due to COVID-19 dashing other types of vacation plans in 2020, Vancouver, B.C.-based compact travel trailer maker DROPLET wanted to give back to its growing community of owners, and hopefully brighten their spirits during trying times.
“We started the DROPLET Design initiative first to support the arts community,” said DROPLET Marketing Specialist Adam Skaloud. “It’s an idea we’ve had for a while, and now seemed like the perfect time.”
In addition to helping out a group of talented artists, DROPLET wanted to give back to its owner community with a unique way to customize their lightweight teardrop-style trailers with custom-designed vinyl wraps.
“We selected artists we saw on Instagram who created art connected to nature, then reached out to them to create designs for our travel trailers,” said Skaloud. “The idea was basically to let them do whatever they want, and submit any work that is connected to camping, the outdoors or nature. We didn’t limit them much.”
DROPLET allowed the group of artists to set their own price, and is passing all of the profits from the sale of the vinyls directly back to them. Three designs from three different artists are currently available, with additional designs on the way. Prices range from $299-$499, and can be ordered directly from the company’s website and shipped to existing owners, or placed on new units produced by the travel trailer maker. The manufacturer will also install the graphics at its plant location if current owners want to bring them there.
“DROPLET Design gives you a chance to decorate your trailer with a unique artwork while supporting those who created them,” said Skaloud. “Artists from both Canada and the U.S. joined our vision to offer design options celebrating the beauty of nature. We are positive that exploring the outdoors and art together helps bring both of those communities closer together. Combining these two will hopefully remind us all that a brighter future is coming.”
DROPLET also has a unique rental program where they assist owners in leasing out their trailers similar to how Airbnb allows sharing of vacation homes. They actively buy land for owners of its trailers to camp on for free as well.
The designs currently available were created by Los Angeles-based Canadian artist Elyse Dodge, Oregon artist Erik Abel of AbelArts, and Vancouver native “Di” of ArtbyDi. The designs can be viewed and ordered on the company website, along with information on how to purchase or rent one of DROPLET’s travel trailers, at www.droplet-trailer.com.
