Audiovox Specialty Applications (ASA) has acquired assets and the North American licensing rights for the Jensen, Acoustic Research, Advent and Road Gear brands for the RV, marine, commercial vehicle and van conversion markets, the Elkhart, Ind.-based company announced.
ASA, a joint venture partner with Audiovox Corp. of Hauppauge, N.Y., paid $3.6 million for the Jensen lines.
Last month, Audiovox, a Nasdaq Stock Market-traded company, acquired the Jensen, Advent and Acoustic Research brands as a result of its acquisition of the U.S. audio operations of Recoton Germany GmbH for $40 million plus the assumption of $5 million worth of debt.
“We believe this acquisition will greatly enhance our current brand offerings, especially the addition of the Jensen high-end mobile audio products,” said Tom Irions, ASA’s CEO.
“The Jensen integration has gone very smoothly and we have already started shipping Jensen products to our customers,” added Brent Barrow, ASA’s president and COO.
The acquisition gives Audiovox and ASA the opportunity “to rebuild the Jensen, Acoustic Research and Advent brands in the U.S.,” said Pat Lavelle, president and CEO of Audiovox.
Audiovox hired several of Recoton’s sales, engineering and R&D staff members as well as some operational personnel, Lavelle said. The former Recoton operations will be managed from Audiovox’ Long Island, N.Y, offices but the R&D facility will remain in Lake Mary, Fla., Lavelle said.
“I’m confident in our ability to rebuild the Jensen name and improve Audiovox’ position in the market,” Lavelle added.
