Recreational park trailer builder Athens Park Homes sponsored its first Resort Development Conference Feb. 10-12 at the Mill Creek Ranch Resort in Canton, Texas.
Phil Surles, president and managing partner of the Athens, Texas-based firm, reported that the conference drew 50 attendees from the U.S. and Canada.
The format was a panel discussion focusing on four subjects:
• Resort design and development
• Economic considerations in planning your resort
• Development through alternative ownerships
• Developing customers for a lifetime
Several industry professionals served as speakers at the conference, including: Andrew Sirkin, Sirkin Paul Associates; Bruce Hoster, president of Coast to Coast; Tim McLaughlin, Resort Condominium International; Bud Surles, Mill Creek Ranch Consulting; Ron Beard, Ron D. Beard and Associates; Kerwin Pyle, Resort Parks International; Michael Mahfood, Group M7; and Doug Cox, Craig Kislingbury and Gary Dye from the Army Corp of Engineers.
The banking industry also had a presence with representatives from US Bank, United Bank and Ascendant Capital Group.
Surles said the meeting was held at Mill Creek so attendees could “view first-hand a master planned development.” The resort was awarded one of only 21 “A” customer satisfaction ratings by the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (ARVC).
The meeting concluded with a plant tour of the facilities at Athens Park Homes facilities, which is the exclusive provider for the cottages and cabins in Mill Creek Ranch Resort.
