Organizers for the Atlanta Camping and RV Show, founded in 1975, reported an all-time attendance record during the Jan. 25-27 at the Atlanta Exposition Center South.

“It was an all-time record attendance for the 44-year history of the show,” said Bobby Smith, president of Hardman Productions Inc. which produces and promotes the show for the Atlanta RV Trade Association. “We were up 30% over last year. It was really a record attendance. The weather was perfect and the dealers were making good sales and getting lots of leads.

“There was a great mix of young and old at the show. It was far more widespread than in the past. There was also a good mix of families attending.”

According to Smith the Atlanta event is one of the biggest combined RV shows in the Southeast with nine of Georgia’s largest RV dealers on-site and over 90 related exhibitors.

Gary Hutchinson, sales representative for Brown’s Camping Sales of Jonesboro, Ga., said that his dealership, established in 1974, has never missed a year of the show. He noted that 2019 was the best event by far.

“We had 22 units there and we sold about half of them,” said Hutchinson. “We definitely had a record attendance. With the amount of people that were at that show, it was just unreal. They couldn’t even walk around easily Saturday there were so many people in the aisles.”

He also confirmed that the demographic was mixed with young and old families and retirees, adding that he did recognize one product trend. “We saw a trend towards medium-sized towable products that could be towed by a half-ton pickup.”

Heidi Brennan, sales assistant for Southern RV in McDonough, Ga., related that the dealership  showcased 25 travel trailers and fifth-wheels from a variety of manufacturers along with two Class A motorhomes from Thor Motor Coach. She concurred that sales were good for towable products.

“We enjoyed it very much,” she said. “The show went really well. I was answering many questions folks had and I believe our sales were very good. It was quite a show. I can’t wait until next year.”
