The RV industry in Australia has a national conference scheduled to begin in a few weeks “to unite as one as we consolidate our industry’s growth and work together so that we can continue to develop in the future,” according to Richard Davis, chairman of Caravan Industry Australia.

The conference will take place Feb. 6-8 at the Rydges Wentworth Hotel in Sydney.

Australia is generally believed to be the country outside of North America that has the infrastructure best-suited for the RV lifestyle. It is almost the size of the U.S. and it has plenty of open space, as indicated by the fact its population is around 19 million, compared with California’s 34 million.

The year 2001 “was a great year for our industry with most areas recording considerable growth,” Davis said.

And as was the case in the U.S. following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the industry in Australia became “robust and pro-active in encouraging Australians to holiday on the domestic front,” Davis said.

The conference will begin Feb. 6 with an “icebreaker reception.” The schedule for the next two days includes numerous workshops and presentations. The topics include improving campground security, design, risk management and professionalism.

Retail dealership customer retention, enhancing profitability and family succession are among the other topics.
