The RV/MH Heritage Foundation Inc. received bids from three of the six local builders invited to submit proposals for construction of the new RV/MH Hall of Fame and Museum in Elkhart, Ind.
According to the Elkhart Truth, the foundation’s board of directors and building committee will review the bids and select a general contractor before the end of March. Plans call for the groundbreaking to be within the next 30 to 60 days.
The planned 65,000-square-foot facility, which will replace the current museum, library and hall of fame in downtown Elkhart, is to be located adjacent to the Indiana Toll Road near the new east Elkhart exit.
The board last August decided to move ahead with the project in phases, and the scope of this summer’s construction will depend on the bids the not-for-profit foundation receives.
The first phase will consist of a 15,000-square-foot RV Hall and a 17,000-square-foot central lobby and theater, with 5,000 square feet devoted to the RV/MH Hall of Fame.
A Suppliers Hall and a Manufactured Housing Hall are in the Phase I bid as alternatives and will be included if finances allow.
