RV aftermarket accessories retailer Camping World will enter the Oklahoma City, Okla., market later this year as part of a newly formed strategic alliance with McClain’s RV Superstore, according to the Journal Record of Oklahoma City.
The Bowling Green, Ky.-based retailer is building a 10,000-square-foot store adjacent to McClain’s Oklahoma City location at 7110 W. Reno Ave. The store will specialize in selling of RV and camping accessories and it is expected to open in mid-December, the business publication reported.
Under the alliance, both Camping World and McClain’s officials hope to create an all-inclusive, one-stop outlet for RV sales, service and accessories.
“It’s a perfect relationship,” said Ann Thornton, dealer alliance marketing manager for Camping World. “In the past, we have opened our own free-standing buildings so this relationship is new for us.”
“Camping World has entered into a new expansion phase as we look to form synergistic alliances with established RV dealerships in key regional locations,” said Mark Boggess, Camping World’s president. “The alliance with McClain’s RV is an ideal fit for both companies because we’re both very customer-oriented and dedicated to offering quality products and services.”
Camping World launched its new expansion strategy, known as the Gold Medal RV Dealer Program, in May with the joining of Camping World and Alpin Haus in Amsterdam, N.Y. A second store was opened in August with Holiday Kamper in Spartanburg, S.C., under the Gold Medal program.
“The Gold Medal RV Dealer Program is a win-win situation for everybody and we are pursuing other opportunities across the country,” added Boggess. “Dealerships benefit from increased traffic flow generated by Camping World. Camping World benefits because the program provides added exposure and additional points of distribution for our products and services.”
Based in Oklahoma City, McClain’s RV began selling RVs in 1963 and has expanded to include locations in Lake Dallas and Fort Worth, Tex.
In 1998, McClain’s received the Recreational Vehicle Dealer Association’s (RVDA) Top Quality Dealer of the Year Award.
McClain’s occupies 12 acres at its Oklahoma City site at the intersection of Reno Avenue and Rockwell Avenue. Camping World’s new Oklahoma City location will feature more than 8,000 RV and outdoor specialty products, as well as a complete line of complementary services targeted at the RV lifestyle.
Thornton also noted that Camping World will not open any additional locations in Oklahoma City as part of the alliance.
Started in 1966, Camping World operates 33 retail outlets in key regional locations across the country. In addition to its retail outlets, products are also sold through the company’s website and its extensive mail-order catalog, which is considered to be a cornerstone for the retailer.
Camping World is a unit of Affinity Group Inc., which also owns TL Enterprises Inc., publisher of RV Business and RVBUSINESS.COM.
