The Camping World project broke ground Thursday (May 24), with Roscoe, Wis., and development officials on hand for a ceremony marking the start of construction.

The Beloit Daily News reported that officials from Camping World, Chicago-based developer Structured Real Estate and village staff were present Thursday for the afternoon ceremony.

“We are excited to have everybody here,” said Structured Real Estate Principal Stephen Doyle. “We started working with Camping World two years ago looking for a site in this area.”

Doyle said Camping World’s and the village’s cooperation were key in getting the project off the ground.

“We are really excited to have both of our companies (Camping World and Gander Outdoors) in this community,” said Camping World representative Kimberly Penfold. “…This corridor along (the interstate) has long been on the radar of Camping World for expansion.”

Roscoe officials said the project will be a key retail opportunity for the village even after the Gander Outdoors expansion was scaled back on the project earlier this year.
