Camping World, the RV accessories retailer, has joined the list of RV-related firms sponsoring race-car drivers. It is sponsoring Stuart Kirby, a native of Bowling Green, Ky., the community where Camping World is headquartered.
The first race in which Camping World sponsored Kirby was the Atlanta ARCA 400 on March 8.
“Our customers and our employees are huge racing fans,” said Mark Gilman, Camping World’s president and CEO. “It’s important for us to support our customers’ interests and being able to support a local racer makes it a win-win situation for Camping World.”
Kirby was ranked No. 1 by the World Karting Association in 1997 before graduating to stock cars, and he competed at Nashville Speedway USA before teaming with crew chief/car owner Bob Schacht on the ARCA circuit. In 10 starts, the partnership has registered two second-place finishes and ran well at Atlanta before experiencing mechanical problems.
Camping World has more than 30 stores nationwide. It is a unit of Affinity Group Inc., which also is the publisher of TL Enterprises Inc., publisher of RV Business and RVBUSINESS.COM.
