A Canadian RV dealer has emerged as a potential buyer of the Canadian Football League’s Calgary Stampeders, according to the Calgary Sun.
The paper reported today (Jan. 6) that Western RV Country President Bruce Urban has expressed interest in buying the team to current owner Michael Feterik if a deal with a local group of oilmen breaks down.
The Calgary Herald, however, reported that the deal with the oilmen, initiated two months ago, was “in the final stages.”
Urban, who worked as a vendor at the Stampeders’ McMahon Stadium when he was 12 years old, started Alberta-based Western RV in 1991. According to him, Western RV’s annual sales exceed $70 million.
Urban said he attempted to join the business group pursuing the Stampeders but was unsuccessful. He then decided to investigate for himself what it would take to own the team.
