Caravan Salon 2004, Europe’s largest RV trade/retail show, attracted around 165,000 attendees this year, a marginal increase over the 164,000 in 2003, according to Messe Dusseldorf, promoters of the show.
This year’s show, the 43rd year for the event, was from Aug. 27 through Sept. 5 at the fairgrounds in Dusseldorf, Germany.
There were 540 firms exhibiting products and services, including 408 from Germany, the largest RV-manufacturing country in Europe. Among the 132 firms from 21 other nations, there were 50 from Italy.
Caravan Salon occupied 870,000 square feet of exhibit space in 10 buildings at the Dusseldorf fairgrounds in northwestern Germany.
“Manufacturers’ expectations (concerning the show) were exceeded by far,” according to Klaus Fortsch, president of the German RV Industry Association, which also is known by the German language initials CIVD.
According to a survey of attendees, more than half came to this year’s Caravan Salon with intentions of purchasing RVs and 44% planned to place orders after their visit to the show.
Sales increased this year of products in higher price ranges, exhibitors reported.
For the second consecutive year, Caravan Salon took place in conjunction with the TourNatur hiking equipment products retail show. TourNatur attracted 24,500 visitors and 250 exhibitor firms this year.
The 2005 staging of Caravan Salon is scheduled for Aug. 26 through Sept. 3. Tour Natur is scheduled for Sept. 2-4 next year.
