Two important RV industry suppliers, Carefree of Colorado and Dometic Corp., are looking to make major moves as leisure marine OEM and aftermarket suppliers.
Both firms are exhibitors at the International Boatbuilders’ Exhibition & Conference (IBEX) in Fort Lauderdale. IBEX continues through Friday (Feb. 7).
Carefree, a unit of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. subsidiary Scott Fetzer Co., has entered the marine sector through its Powerwinch division, which had been a division of another Fetzer company until a year-ago, said Carefree President Tom Faludy.
Carefree, a major supplier of awnings and other “shade control” products in the RV sector, has introduced the 12V Carefree Mariner Awning, Faludy said.
Additionally, Carefree launched a series of Powerwinch windlasses, anchor winches, power spools and pot pullers, many of which are specialized for particular categories of boats such as pontoon and ski boats, cruisers and yachts, he added.
Meanwhile, Dometic, a major supplier of refrigerators, air conditioners and microwave ovens to the RV industry, entered the marine sector a little over a year ago when it acquired marine toilet and plumbing supplies manufacturer SeaLand Technology Inc. from Taylor Made Group.
At IBEX, Dometic launched a series of portable freezer boxes, microwaves and a central vacuum cleaner system for boats.
