Hard-sided foldout maker Chalet RV Inc., Albany, Ore., has weighed in for 2006 with the Oregon truck camper, a telescoping hard-sided camper the company says is the first in the industry. The top of the vacuum-bonded fiberglass camper drops 32 inches so that it extends only 15 inches above the truck cab for travel. “We have expertise in expanding RV products and saw an opportunity to get into a different market,” said President Chris Hansen. A prototype of the Oregon made its debut at the 43rd Annual National RV Trade show in late November in Louisville, Ky., retailing for around $16,000. The Oregon features one 8-foot floorplan with a 6 1/2-foot version planned for short-bed pickups. The telescoping nature of the Oregon allows 7’2″ of headroom in the main area and 3 feet in the cabover bunk.
