Motorhome chassis and emergency-rescue vehicle builder Spartan Motors Inc. reports its second quarter earnings increased 134% and its diesel pusher motorhome chassis business was a major contributor.
“Sales of our emergency-rescue vehicles were solid, and RV chassis sales were exceptionally strong in the second quarter,” said John Sztykiel, CEO. “As we look to the balance of 2002, we are optimistic.”
Spartan’s net earnings increased 134% during the three months ended June 30 to $3 million and its total sales climbed 12% higher to $65.3 million.
The company’s motorhome chassis sales revenue increased 45% during the April-through-June period and the number of chassis units that Spartan sold to motorhome builders during the period was up 35% when compared with the same period a year earlier. The specific amounts of dollars and units were not revealed.
Spartan’s chassis sales revenue for highline coaches during the three months ended June 30 was up 204% when compared with the same period a year earlier.
“We continue to outpace the overall RV industry by ensuring that the Spartan experience is exceptional,” Sztykiel said. “We are increasing the focus on delivering product performance that excites the user and ‘Customer First’ service that strengthens loyalty to our brand.”
During the first six months of this year, Spartan’s total sales revenue increased 13% to $132 million and its net earnings soared 129% higher to $6.3 million.
