Coachmen Industries Inc. recently won the top sales award from Ford Motor Co. for Class C motorhome production during 1999.

Last year was the second in a row that Coachmen was the No. 1 user of Ford Class C chassis, according to Claire Skinner, the Coachmen chairman.

Ford is the No. 1 supplier of Class C chassis because it builds a model with a gross vehicle weight rating (gvwr) of 14,000 pounds. The other major Class C chassis supplier is General Motors Corp., which builds a 12,300-pound gvwr unit.

Coachmen’s Class C brands include the Coachmen RV Division Santara, Leprechaun and Catalina Sport; the Shasta Travelmaster, Cheyenne and Spirte and the Georgie Boy Maverick.
