The Coleman name has re-emerged on folding camping trailers such as this lightweight Switchback prototype at PRVCA’s Pennsylvania RV and Camping Show Sept. 8-14 in Hershey. “Coleman is our heritage,” said Allan Reeping, national sales manager for FTCA Inc., a subsidiary of Blackstreet Capital Management LLC, which in May purchased the Fleetwood Enterprises Inc.’s folding camping trailer operation in Somerset, Pa. The brightly colored Switchback will be available in one 6-foot floorplan with two beds and a powder-coated, 3-by-5 metal wire front deck to store gear. The two foldout beds feature zippered privacy curtains and mesh ceilings with flaps over each bed that open to the sky. In the travel mode the top can be equipped with racks to carry bikes, kayaks and other small equipment. “We are planning in the future to be able to remove the beds so you can use it strictly as a utility trailer,” Reeping said. “One of the things we are realizing is that everything needs to get smaller and lighter.” The Switchback, with a dry weight of less that 600 pounds, retails from about $4,000.
