Colton RV, a veteran RV retailer in western New York state, is leasing 41,000 square feet in Buffalo’s Eastern Hills Mall, according to a report in the Buffalo News.
The dealership, founded in 1962, will be selling a mix of towable RVs and motorhomes in space that formerly housed a major department store. The retailer will operate as Buffalo-Niagara RV & Camping and is set to open on Jan. 18.
According to the paper, while Colton moves in, the mall will continue to negotiate with an entertainment complex operator for long-term lease of the space.
Colton RV decided to lease the space after seeing a higher than expected sales volume during an RV show at the mall, which has been extended to run for an extra week.
Colton RV’s current showroom in nearby Wheatfield has capacity for six to eight motorhomes while the majority of its inventory is parked on a 13-acre lot. The space in the Eastern Hills Mall can hold 80 vehicles.
“Our customers won’t have to battle the ice and snow,” said a Colton RV representative. “It’s a perfect location. We’re nestled into three affluent communities here in western New York. It’s just over a mile from the thruway and next to one of the busiest intersections in the area.”
Thruway access is important to Colton RV because 30% of its customers are from outside the Buffalo area.
The company said it decided against putting the Colton name on the store so it could try a different product mix at the mall location.
