The conversion vehicle market showed a little more life in May with the beleaguered pickup and sport utility vehicle (SUV) conversion segments posting shipments increases, according to the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA).
The van conversion segment, which has shown signs of a recovery since the beginning of this year, also posted an increase.
The number of van conversions shipped from manufacturers to auto dealers increased 2.4% in May to 4,300 units and van conversion shipments were up 13.3% during the first five months of this year to 19,600 units.
Meanwhile, shipments of converted pickups increased 12.5% in May to 1,800 units, although converted pickup shipments were down 23.4% during the first five months of this year to 5,900 units.
Converted SUV shipments increased 25% in May to 500 units, but converted SUV deliveries were down 20.8% during the first five months of this year to 1,900 units.
