The shrinkage of the wholesale market for conversion vehicles continued in September, according to the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA).
Factory-to-auto-dealer shipments of van conversions declined 19% in September to 3,400 units, compared with 4,200 units in September 2002.
After the first nine months of this year, van-conversion shipments were down 14.8% to 31,200 units, compared with 36,600 units in the same portion of last year.
Meanwhile, shipments of converted pickups declined 12.5% in September to 1,400 units, compared with 1,600 units a year earlier. After the first nine months of this year, shipments of converted pickups were down 5.8% to 11,300 units, compared with 12,000 units a year earlier.
Deliveries of converted SUVs declined 50% in September to 200 units. After the first nine months of this year, shipments of converted SUVs were down 11.4% to 3,100 units, compared with 3,500 units a year earlier.
