The conversion vehicle sector’s sharp decline continued in November, according to data gathered by the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA).
The number of van conversions shipped from the manufacturers to auto dealers declined 33.8% in November to 4,900 units, the RVIA reported. After the first 11 months of 2000, van conversion shipments were down 26.4% to 72,300 units.
Shipments of converted sport utility vehicles (SUVs) also fell 25% in November to 600 units, and converted SUV shipments were down 44.2% during the first 11 months of 2000 to 6,700 units.
In comparison, the dealer demand for converted pickups held up pretty well during 2000, despite the fact shipments declined 16% in November to 2,100 units. During the first 11 months of 2000, deliveries of converted pickups were down only marginally, 0.6%, to 32,800 units, the RVIA reported.
