CURT Manufacturing, LLC, a leading manufacturer and marketer of premium towing products, is making an “exciting transition” within its towing electrical product line. According to a press release, starting in 2015, CURT T-connectors will be referred to as either “custom vehicle-to-trailer wiring harnesses” or “custom vehicle-to-trailer wiring connectors.”
CURT Manufacturing stated in the release that it is constantly looking for better ways to communicate with customers and uphold industry standards and expectations. While “T-connector” may be well-known to those who work in the industry, CURT’s research has shown that the overwhelming majority of consumers are unfamiliar with the term. “Making the transition from the ambiguous term ‘T-connector’ to the clear and definitive term ‘custom vehicle-to-trailer wiring’ will be beneficial for both dealers and consumers and will make it easier for our customers to find what they are looking for,” the Eau Claire, Wis.-based company said.
CURT will also now be splitting custom vehicle-to-trailer wiring into two subcategories: custom wiring harnesses and custom wiring connectors. These subcategories are based on the type of connection each product uses to install in the vehicle. Custom wiring harnesses plug into the taillight assembly using two or more plugs, and customer wiring connectors use a single plug to connect into an OEM socket already equipped on the vehicle.
The 2015 CURT catalog has already integrated these helpful terminology changes, and CURT’s website content will be soon to follow. To help those who are familiar with the term “T-connector”, CURT will continue to use it intermittently throughout future literature materials.
