Damon Motor Coach hopes to build a research and development (R&D) facility and to add office space on property next to its existing facilities at the northwest edge of Elkhart, Ind.
Separately, the Class A motorhome manufacturer is phasing in the name Damon Motor Coach to distinguish itself from company principal Don Pletcher’s Breckenridge park model and towable assembly operation in nearby Nappanee, Ind., said Gary Groom, president and CEO of Damon Motor Coach.
Both Damon Motor Coach and Breckenridge continue to be units of Damon Corp., Groom added.
Damon Motor Coach plans to build a 30,000-square-foot office and R&D building along the Indiana Toll Road (I-80/90), immediately west of its existing headquarters and factory, said Groom, adding that planning is in the preliminary stage.
Damon received preliminary approval for its expansion from Elkhart County zoning authorities on Nov. 7, and the Elkhart County Commissioners will consider the request in December.
If the county approves the company’s plans, Damon Motor Coach would ask to have a nine-acre site annexed by the city of Elkhart so the company can get more favorable utility rates.
