A new mobile app designed by former California dealership owner Dan Gamel launched last month. The program was recently picked up for beta testing with automotive software technology service company Data Consultants, and could potentially spread to dealerships throughout the country.

According to a report by the Fresno Business Journal, Gamel’s “My Four Square Anywhere” app is designed for use by professional car and RV salesmen and seeks to bring the car-buying process into the 21st century, he said. The app is available for both Android and Apple devices and has been downloaded nearly 800 times since launching earlier this year, he said.

“Most dealerships are still doing business like they did in the 1950s,” he said. “You’d think technology would have caught up by now, but instead most car salesmen still walk around using a notepad and pencil.”

The app is a digital version of the traditional “four-square” worksheet used during sales negotiations and is designed for auto, RV, boat or motorcycle sales. It builds upon the company’s pre-existing web-based product and cross-references value guides from Kelly Blue Book and the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) to assess trade-ins and pricing offers.

Gamel said he has been working with Fresno-based Data Consultants to roll out the program to various dealerships.
