Alvin Macdonald Jr.

Alvin Macdonald Jr.

Alvin Macdonald Jr., principal in Macdonald’s RV Center in Plainville, Mass., passed away Jan. 6 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital. He was 88.

In 1954, Macdonald joined his father in the family business of Macdonald Mobile Home and Trailer Sales in North Attleboro, Mass., where he later went on to be vice president and manager until its sale in 1977. At that time, the family business moved to Plainville as Macdonald’s RV Center and continues to this day.

Macdonald was also in business with his dad, Alvin Macdonald Sr., at Almac, a company which manufactured and sold truck campers.

Born in Providence, R.I., Aug. 25, 1928, MacDonald was the son of the late Alvin Sr. and Irene (Cottrell) Macdonald. He was the husband of the late Eileen R. (Cote’) Macdonald.

He was a 1946 graduate of East Senior High School. During World War II, he served in the United States Air Force as a sergeant from December 1946 until his honorable discharge in November 1949. In 1950, he attended the University of Rhode Island.

He received his real estate license from Lee Institute in Brookline, Mass., as well as being a licensed plumber and gasfitter until 2012.

Alvin was a member of several organizations such as the North Attleboro Chamber of Commerce, New England Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (NRVDA), New England Mobile Home Association, RV Dealers Association, RV Industry Association, National Federation of Independent Business, and Kiwanis Club. He was on the board of directors for the Plainville Savings and Loan.

He enjoyed playing cribbage and doing crossword puzzles but most of all he enjoyed time spent with his family. He was an avid reader and his love for the RV industry was palpable, his family noted.

Macdonald is survived by his two daughters Karen Macdonald, of Buzzards Bay, and Colleen Girard, of Cheshire, Conn.; as well as his three grandchildren: Douglas Girard of Maryland, Jeffrey Girard of Pennsylvania, and Nicole Pascucci of Wareham, Pa.; and a great-granddaughter Ellieanna Zecco, of Wareham, Mass.

Visiting will take place today (Jan. 19) in the Sperry McHoul Funeral Home, located at 15 Grove St., North Attleboro from 4-7 p.m.  A funeral service will immediately follow at 7 p.m. A burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Macdonald’s name can be made to Mike Molino RV Learning Center; located at 3930 University Drive, Fairfax, VA 22030 or the Jimmy Fund, located at 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226.
