“Nearly two dozen” dealers ordered more than 100 units of Thor America’s SkyDeck towable during the National RV Trade Show in Louisville, according to the Middleburg, Pa.-based subsidiary of Thor Industries Inc.

The SkyDeck features a patented rooftop deck complete with a wet bar, barbecue grill and cushioned seating for eight to 12 people. The deck is accessible by stairs from inside the trailer and dramatically expands the entertainment options for RVers who enjoy NASCAR and other racing events, tailgating and other outdoor activity, according to the company.

“Our new fifth-wheel featuring this unique rooftop seating was the most popular new product we introduced during (the Louisville show),” said Mike Stout, president and general manager of Thor America.

The SkyDeck is available in five floorplans on travel trailers, fifth-wheels and sport-utility trailers ranging from 28- to 34-feet long.

Suggested retail prices range from $39,500 to $58,750.

Shipments to dealers will begin during the first quarter of next year.

Even with the SkyDeck, the unit extends no higher than a towable with a rooftop air conditioning units, according to the company.

SkyDeck units also come with one or two slideouts and other options include a HiLo Stow dining-coffee table, outdoor speakers, carpeting, storage bins, outdoor lighting and an electrical outlet panel.

“We believe our design will resonate with RVers, who are always looking for ways to distinguish themselves, and their vehicles, from their neighbors,” said Jim Teeter, president of SkyDeck. “The SkyDeck offers distinctive living and entertaining options, and is packaged at a very attractive price point.”
