A proposed 400-space recreational vehicle resort park in northeast Carson City, Nev., could be the next major commercial development for the city, according to a report in the Reno Gazette Journal.
Landowner Don Langson said he hopes to build his RV resort with a water park and restaurant on the 42-acre parcel after phase one of the nearby Carson City Freeway opens.
“At least half of the spaces will cater to the big diesel-pusher motorhomes,” he said. “We’ll be putting in larger sites because a lot of them like to tow cars, and they don’t want to be backing up.”
Langson expects the work to be done on his property for the new freeway by the end of the month.
“Then we can get together with engineers and planners. We know what (the project) is supposed to look like, but nothing is etched in stone right now,” he said.
Another component of Langson’s plan – if an agreement can be reached with the Carson City Airport Authority – would be to lease 29 acres of adjacent airport property to put in a nine-hole golf course.
Candy Duncan, Carson City Convention & Visitors Bureau executive director, said she looks forward to hearing more about the project.
“If he is building a complete RV destination resort, it would be a great tourism product,” Duncan said. “We definitely need that here with the freeway and all the other great plans for our area. It would be very welcome.”
