For the third year in a row, Dodd RV in Virginia was named the RV Dealer of the Year by DealerRater, a leading automotive and RV dealer review website. Award recipients are recognized for distinction in outstanding customer service based upon consumer reviews of dealership experiences shared on DealerRater.com and DealerRater.ca.
Reviewers evaluated Dodd RV on its customer service, quality of work, friendliness, pricing, and overall experience, according to a release that also listed automotive dealership winners for each state and province. Other finalists in the RV category included Giant Recreation World in Ormond Beach, Fla., and Fretz RV in Souderton, Pa.
Founded in 1956 by George Dodd, Dodd RV operates Virginia locations in Portsmouth and Yorktown. Dodd’s children, Jamie Dodd, Jennifer Moore and Susie Dodd, assumed the business operation in 2001.
Jamie Dodd told RVBUSINESS.com that it’s an honor to be recognized for their dealership’s customer service, and credited store personnel for “doing an awesome job.”
“You know, a lot of it comes down to our corporate mission,” Dodd said. “There are key guiding principles that my father instilled in my siblings and me about what to do and how to do it – and I’ve got to tell you, a lot of them are biblical principles. Treating people the way we want to be treated, and we strive to do what’s right. We might not always do the right thing, but we try to do what’s right.”
Dodd said another key is the dealership seeks employees adept at providing excellent customer service, and then treating those staffers with respect. “Hopefully if we treat them right, then they will treat our guests right. And that’s clearly that’s one of the things that’s happening,” he said.
“We look at relationships for the long term, the long haul,” Dodd continued. “Not just for today. Not just for tomorrow. Not for this week or this month. We try to do what it takes to make sure they’re happy, and most of the times we’re able to do that. By winning the national award again, obviously, our team is doing a great job at that.”
DealerRater’s Dealer of the Year Awards are given annually to the top U.S. and Canadian car dealers based on PowerScore, which the company said was a “Bayesian algorithm” that considers the dealership’s average DealerRater star-rating as well as the total number of reviews written about the dealership during the 2017 calendar year.
“This year’s Dealer of the Year Award winners stood out because of their dedication to providing superior customer service,” said Jamie Oldershaw, general manager of DealerRater. “Today, deals are won and lost on experience, and it’s clear from their online reviews that these dealerships understand how to take care of their customers. DealerRater offers shoppers the opportunity to select the right person at the right dealership so their online experience translates seamlessly to their offline experience, and for dealers this means they are building rapport with informed, ready-to-buy customers long before shoppers show up on the lot.”
To qualify for the DealerRater Dealer of the Year Awards, dealers must have had at least 25 new reviews written on DealerRater.com during 2017 and averaged a minimum of a four out of five-star rating.
