Dura Automotive Systems Inc., parent of RV industry supplier Atwood Mobile Products, lost $3.4 million during the third quarter because of “continuing weakness in the North American automobile and recreational vehicle industries as well as unfavorable foreign exchange.”

The third quarter loss compares with a net profit of $10.3 million earned during the July-through-September portion of 2000.

Dura’s third quarter sales declined 3% to $568.9 million and its revenue during the nine months ended Sept. 30 was down 4% to $1.90 billion.

The company’s earnings during the first nine months of this year declined 51% to $18.7 million.
