Dutchmen Manufacturing was granted a seven-year tax abatement by the Goshen (Ind.) City Council for a newly constructed 55,000-square-foot manufacturing facility, according to a report in the Elkhart Truth.
The recreational vehicle builder, a Thor Industries Inc. company, will save $190,000, and agreed to give $38,000 of the amount to a city economic development fund. The plant is set to open this month.
The Truth reported that Dutchmen would have only received a five-year tax break, but agreed to donate 20% of its savings to the development fund. That pushed it to a seven-year break on the city’s rating system.
The other factor in Duthmen’s favor was the additional 212 “well-paying” jobs the new facility will provide.
Council member Chic Lantz added that he supported the company particularly because it’s been a longtime local employer.
Dutchmen’s application was first proposed just before construction began, representing just the fourth request for abatement in Goshen.
