Class A and Class C motorhome builder Dynamax Corp. has acquired the Carri-Go Class C motorhome line from Carriage Inc., the two companies announced today (March 23).

The transaction was finalized Thursday (March 22). Terms were not revealed.

As a result of the sale of the Carri-Go series, Carriage now is exclusively a builder of mid-priced to highline travel trailers and fifth-wheels. However, the sale of Carri-Go does not preclude Carriage from re-entering the motorhome sector, said Pete Recchio, Carriage’s director of sales and marketing.

Dynamax was among several manufacturers that approached Carriage about acquiring the Carri-Go line, but Dynamax was selected because “Dynamax has shown that it has a corporate culture emphasizing (product) quality, top-notch service and positive dealer/manufacturer relations that we have at Carriage,” Recchio said.

Dynamax was interested in Carri-Go because “it completes our line-up,” said DeWayne Creighton, president.

The Carri-Go comes in two 23-foot floorplans and it is “a natural stepping stone, in terms of price-point, to our Starflyte series,” Creighton said. Carri-Go units retail in the mid-$60,000 range while the widebody Starflyte Class C, which comes in 21- and 24-foot floorplans, retails in the $70,000-to-$80,000 range.

Dynamax will need to hire “a few more people” to build Carri-Go units at Dynamax’ 135,000-square-foot plant in Elkhart, Ind., Creighton said.

Carriage and Dynamax assembled a transition team including representatives from the companies’ sales, production, purchasing, engineering and code compliance departments to help with the ownership transfer, Recchio said.

In addition to the right to use the Carri-Go brand name, Dynamax also bought Carriage’s Carri-Go related work-in-progress and raw materials inventories, tooling, equipment and fixtures.

Carriage, based in Millersburg, Ind., will take responsibility for warranty servicing on all Carri-Go units that it built, including those on dealers’ lots that have not yet been sold to a retail buyer, Recchio added.
