The snow up at Crater Lake in Oregon brought in a lot of tourists this past weekend. This comes just after a report was released showing high visitor numbers for 2014, according to a report by KDRV.
A new National Park Service report shows more than 535,000 visitors went to Crater Lake National Park last year.
Tourist spending benefitted the local economy with more than $61 million and supported more than 750 jobs in the local area.
Rangers said this is the earliest they have ever seen the facilities open in the spring time.
“We have a very low snow year so we’re trying to get some facilities open because there’s no snow blocking their way. The lodge will actually open on May 15, so that’s a few weeks. Actually the campground, at least part of the campground is going to open on May 8,” said Crater Lake National Park PIO Marsha McCabe.
The cabins are now open at Mazama Village along with Annie Creek Restaurant at the base of the south entrance to the park.
