Breaking into the RV industry can be tough without any experience, but a new program at Ivy Tech’s ’s Elkhart County campus aims to make process a little easier.
As reported by the Elkhart Truth, the Ivy Tech Community College RV Industry Production Associate program is a 40-hour, five-day course that gives students hands-on training for RV and RV-related jobs.
“We created this one-week training program in order to give potential employees the chance to get a little bit of experience before walking through that door,” said Julie Foster, president of Ivy Tech’s Elkhart County campus. “If you’ve never worked in a factory environment or don’t know somebody who has, it can be a little intimidating.”
The course costs $50 and applications are accepted on a rolling basis. A new session will begin every Monday for eight weeks starting Feb. 2.
Students will tour local RV plants, hear from guest speakers and get hands-on assembly practice. On the last day, participants will have the chance to interview with one of the program’s three corporate partners — Thor Industries Inc., Lippert Components Inc. and Patrick Industries Inc.
