The jobless rate in Indiana’s Elkhart County, home to the RV industry’s manufacturing hub, continues to tumble.

According to a report by the Elkhart Truth, the county’s jobless rate fell to 6.7% in December, its lowest level since June 2008, according to state figures released Tuesday, Jan. 28.

The county’s 6.7% rate was down from 7.6% unemployment in November. Of Indiana’s 92 counties, Elkhart was one of 41 counties that saw its rate drop by 0.9% or more from November to December.

Elkhart’s rate was the seventh-lowest among Indiana’s 10 most populous counties.

“Just as important is the fact more than 21,000 folks have returned to the labor force over the past three months, which is unique in the Midwest,” Scott Sanders, Department of Workforce Development commissioner, said in a statement.
