Elkhart, Ind., city officials have taken the first step toward granting an RV distributor a tax break on a planned $4 million expansion that would create eight jobs.
According to a report by the Elkhart Truth, the Elkhart City Council unanimously approved what’s a declaratory resolution Monday (Feb. 2) for Global Link Distribution Corp.’s request for a three-year abatement on property taxes. Now the matter will come up for debate at a public hearing at the March 2 council meeting, when the body is supposed to make a final decision.
Global Link, which distributes fasteners, hardware and locks, mainly to the recreational vehicle industry, proposes building a new facility in eastern Elkhart, consolidating current operations at three other locations. The new building would cost an estimated $3.5 million, with $500,000 more to be spent on machinery and other related expenses.
The company, founded in 2007, currently employs 28, and the eight new jobs, to be created by April 2018, would pay $15 an hour, on average.
