Elkhart County police are urging Indiana recreational vehicle makers and transport firms to watch for catalytic converter thieves.

The Elkhart Truth reported that last week someone stole catalytic converters from 19 Ford chassis on the lot of Forest River Inc.’s Coachmen RV plant at 423 N. Main St. in Middlebury, said Kevin Miller, Middlebury Police Department deputy chief.

Miller said police believe the thefts occurred sometime between Sunday (Aug. 24) and late Tuesday.

There were at least three such cases reported to police in 2012. The Elkhart County Sherriff Department recently issued an advisory on Twitter asking businesses to be cautious.

“We’re trying to get ahead of the game on this one,” Elkhart County Sherriff Department’s Capt. Jim Bradberry said.
