Officials in Indiana’s Elkhart County officials formalized the deal granting Global Link Distribution Corp. a tax break on a planned $4 million expansion that would create eight jobs.

The Elkhart Truth reported that the issue first came to the Elkhart City Council on Feb. 2, when officials initially approved a resolution declaring the area where Global Link plans to build an “economic revitalization area,” the first step in the tax abatement process. On Monday (March 2) the council granted the resolution final approval and formally agreed to the terms of the tax abatement.

Global Link distributes fasteners, hardware and locks, mainly to the recreational vehicle industry. It plans to build a new facility off Patricia Court, north of Middlebury Street in eastern Elkhart, consolidating operations at three other locations. The new building would cost an estimated $3.5 million with $500,000 more to be spent on machinery and other equipment.

The company, founded in 2007, now employs 28, and the eight new jobs would pay an average of $30,900 per year.
