European tourists are driving RV rentals, making it one of the busiest seasons on record.
Gas prices may be up, but the low loonie is offsetting the cost of a cross-Canada road trip for many foreign tourists, predominantly from Europe, says Brian Gronberg, CEO and president of the CanaDream RV rental company with headquarters in Calgary.
Europeans are accounting for 85% of the business, said Gronberg.
“Some of the things we take for granted the world is just amazed by,” said Gronberg.
He says it’s also the freedom of this type of travel that attracts many people.
“You can do it at your own pace, put your finger in the air, check the direction of the wind and pick a path.”
Though summer is typically the busiest time of year for RV rentals, this year is particularly brisk.
“We’re seeing a 12% increase over last year’s bookings,” said Gronberg.
The total number of bookings this year is 7,000 and last year it was just under 6,000.
