His recent career transition from employee to employer represented a logical progression for Jim Humble.
Having served in every capacity at Colorado-based Mountain State RV and Windish RV for 27 years — the better part of that tenure essentially “running the show” in the role of general manager — Humble was primed for the next step.
Early this week he will officially close the deal on the purchase of two Four Seasons RV locations, a key competitor for Windish in the Denver area market, bringing closure to a goal he has been pursuing for the past few years.
“They have a good reputation for parts and service and are a member of the Priority RV Network,” he said of the operation, whose owners have retained their interests in Canada that include an RV dealership and an expansive RV park and resort. “I tried to put something together with Windish, but it didn’t work out. This opportunity came up and I jumped on it.
“I purchased all assets for the stores in Wheat Ridge and Loveland, including an indoor showroom, service body shop, paint booth and a mobile service operation that features a dispatch center and mobile service vans.”
Humble and his staff, which include a few key employees from Windish led by Drew Bryant who has a minority stake in Four Seasons, are currently putting the pieces together for the transformation. Leading that lengthy to-do list is a rebranding of the dealership to Cousins RV — Humble and Bryant are cousins — including new signage, documents and rehiring of staff.
“We are staying open during the transition,” Humble, 48, told RVBUSINESS.com. “The Colorado RV Adventure & Travel Show in Denver opens on Wednesday and we will brand it as Four Seasons is now Cousins RV. It will provide us with great exposure. We’re also planning a grand reopening later this spring.”
Humble noted that another focus will be to make changes in the product selection at the dealership.
“We want to carry product that is more relevant in today’s market,” related Humble who resigned from Windish on Jan. 1. “We plan on specializing in toy haulers and lightweight trailers. The Denver market is packed with young families that are outdoor enthusiasts so I will be aiming toward that lightweight family-friendly trailer. That said, there are still many luxury and mid-profile fifth-wheel buyers in this area.
“We will be working toward that right product mix for our Colorado buyers. To that end, we will also be aligning with manufacturers that have a good warranty and good overall construction.”
While concentrating on the details of realigning the company’s operations, Humble said that foremost on his list of objectives was to “establish a new culture at the dealership.”
“We want all our employees intent on making Four Seasons a dealership people want to do business with,” he said. “That includes management and every employee that works here. It’s key to our success.”
He added, “Needless to say, I’m over the moon with excitement. A lot of work has been put into this, but there’s certainly a lot more work still to be done. My long-range goal has been to own a dealership. This is a tremendous opportunity and I look forward to the challenges.”
