Longtime Carefree of Colorado President Tom Faludy has accepted a position with Carefree’s parent company, the Scott Fetzer Co., as vice president of group and corporate development.
Faludy will oversee nine companies, including Carefree, in addition to directing “business combinations” for Scott Fetzer.
Faludy, 57, also will be stepping down as chairman of the Go RVing Coalition, which he is generally credited with founding in 1994.
“It wouldn’t be fair to the coalition to have someone heading it up that is not 100% involved in the industry,” Faludy said.
Scott Fetzer, based in Westlake, Ohio, is a diversified manufacturer of home and industrial products with a portfolio that includes 23 companies. The company is a unit of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., the conglomerate assembled by high-profile investor Warren Buffett.
Broomfield, Colo.-based Carefree, a manufacturer of RV awnings and other comfort and convenience products for the RV, marine and home industries, has been part of Scott Fetzer for around 32 years.
Faludy, who has been president of Carefree since 1989, will be replaced by Jeff Rutherford, formerly vice president of the OEM business unit and a Carefree employee for around 10 years.
Russ West, a Carefree employee for over 20 years, was promoted to Rutherford’s former position, and Bill Fudale will remain as vice president of the aftermarket business unit.
“I’m very enthused for all the deserving people who have been given a great opportunity by my exit,” Faludy said. “I have total confidence they will continue the record growth that we have experienced over the last 10 years.”
Faludy added that he will remain in close contact with the industry and “that I want all of my friends to know that I’m not closing the door to all of those long friendships. As I move to a new chapter in my life, I will still need the support of all my old friends.”
