PROVO, Utah – When it comes to towing an RV, proper weight distribution is one of the most important principles. Without weight distribution, the trailer’s tongue weight added to the tow vehicle can cause it to “teeter-totter” over the rear axle, which lifts the weight off the front wheels. This can cause a serious loss of steering and braking control and can also contribute to a setup that is more likely to sway.
With a weight distribution hitch, like the Fastway e2 hitch, RVers can have faster, easier sway control with weight distribution, providing a more comfortable tow, accordng to a release from Fastway Trailer Products.
With built-in, permanent sway control, one can hitch up, tow, and unhitch with ease. There is nothing extra to connect or store, and nothing to remove when backing up or making a tight turn. The e2 hitch’s built-in sway control keeps families safer in hazardous situations that can cause sway, like towing heavy loads, passing semi-trucks, fighting crosswinds or making quick maneuvers. The e2 hitch has no backing, turning, or weather restrictions. Its brackets give permanent sway control for smarter, safer towing.
The e2 hitch has two different models – the trunnion and the round bar. While both provide sway control and weight distribution, there are a couple of differences.
The round bar hitch uses round steel spring arms that easily slip into downward facing sockets in the head. The curved spring arms use a tapered bevel at their ends which helps ensure a smoother ride. Round bar hitches are popular with mid-weight trailer owners and are a smart option for vehicles with lighter suspension, like SUVs and light trucks. The brackets on the hitch are mounted 24”-27” back from the center of the hitch ball; and the round bar is available in 6K, 8K, and 10K models.
The trunnion hitch utilizes solid, high strength, square steel spring arms. When hooking up, the spring arms easily fit into their forged trunnion for easy removal and storage. The trunnion hitch is well suited for heavier loads, or truck and trailer combinations needing more clearance. The trunnion brackets are mounted a bit farther back from the center of the hitch ball at 27”-30, and the trunnion is available in 4.5K, 6K, 10K, and 12K models.
“While other hitches on the market only provide weight distribution, both the e2 trunnion and the e2 round bar hitches utilize patent protected brackets on the trailer frame that fight dangerous trailer sway,” says Product Engineer, David Lundgreen. “This enables both the trunnion and round bar hitches to provide excellent sway control and superb weight distribution.”
