An employee of Jayco Inc. died Monday (Oct. 2) from injuries received when he was trapped in a sidewall lamination press.
The victim was Robert A. Kinzie, 40, of Millersburg, Ind.
He had been a Jayco employee for 12 years.
Kinzie died from internal injuries after his head, chest and upper abdomen became caught in the lamination press at Jayco’s manufacturing complex in Middlebury, Ind. The press exerts about 1,000 pounds of pressure per square inch, according to sources quoted by the Elkhart Truth newspaper of Elkhart, Ind.
It took co-workers between three and five minutes to free Kinzie from the press, the newspaper reported, quoting an emergency medical service official. He was not breathing and had no pulse after he was freed. Kinzie was given CPR but could not be revived.
