Daimler Freightliner of Gaffney, S.C., has purchased a 25.75-acre tract for its new 200,000-square-foot logistics center in Cherokee County, according to Lyons Industrial Properties of Spartanburg, which negotiated the deal.

Go Upstate reported that Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp. (FCCC) employs more than 650 people and the new facility will accommodate its growing operations, according to Bobby Lyons of Lyons Industrial Properties.

A groundbreaking is planned for mid-April, he said.

Last year, Daimler Trucks North America announced a $22.7 million investment in the Freightliner Chassis Corp. for the new logistics center, and for expansions of the employee parking lot and completed chassis parking and loading-deliver operations.

The investment also provides for the expansion of the current office building and its personal work stations, training room and cafeteria.
